I’ve been asked to supply a certificate that confirms my eligibility to work in Scotland by my local NHS board / employer. Where can I get this?
- Please see our Competency Workshop page. All the information you need will be there.
I live outside Scotland but want to work there. What do I need to do?
- If you have qualified in the UK (including Northern Ireland) after April 2006, then all you need is to do is contact the relevant NHS area board and order your competency certificate from us.
If you were qualified prior to April 2006 and / or outside the UK, then you will need to complete a Competency Workshop.
Please see out Competency Workshop page.
I have just qualified and want to start working. How long does it take for my Competency Certificate to be sent out?
- We aim to have your certificate sent out within 48 hours of hearing from you (after payment has been made). In emergency circumstances we will endeavour to have this sent sooner. All we need from you is your name, GOC number (starts with 01-), postal address, email address and a telephone number.
Glaucoma
I have examined an 80 year old lady who has no F/H of Glaucoma but IOP R26 L24 (Goldmann), discs look normal with cupping R0.2 L0.2 and full threshold fields are normal. Should I refer her to an Ophthamologist?
- After F/H the next most important risk factor for Glaucoma is age. However if you are confident that the discs look normal and the fields and pressures are repeatable, then it is just a matter of monitoring her on a regular basis.
A risk of PVD
I have examined a 60 year old myope who has been complaining of floaters for 3 months. I have dilated and examined the periphery with a volk lens but am concerned that I may have missed a tear or break.
- Your patient is in a risk group and it is good that you have dilated and examined the periphery. However floaters present for more than 3 months with no other signs or symptoms are less of a concern. A sensible course of action is to issue a leaflet on the signs and symptoms of retinal detachment and review in 6 months.
