In April 2006 a new General Opthalmic Services (GOS) contract was introduced. To comply with the contract, every optometrist has to display a basic level of competency as agreed with the Scottish Government. In order to work in Scotland you must have a competency certificate, which NHS Scotland will ask you to present prior to working in the country.

If you have qualified in the UK (including Northern Ireland) since April 2006 then you can apply for a Competency Certificate.

SIGN UP FOR A COMPETENCY WORKSHOP
Should you have qualified outside of the UK, or prior to April 2006 then you will be required to complete one of our competency workshops. Acuity runs regular workshops to enable optometrists to demonstrate their skills and achieve a certificate. These are held on the last Tuesday of every month, and cost £200.
